About
Arguably, the longest and most diverse wine route in South Africa, the Klein Karoo wine region stretches along the Route 62 from Cogmanskloof outside Montagu in the west to Herold in the Outeniqua in the east. The production of wine grapes is quite small, with only 2 181 hectares under vineyard, just 2% of the country’s total hectares of which 23% is allocated to red varietals and the rest to white. In 2021, the Klein Karoo produced 25 million litres of wine, again just 2,2% of the country’s total wine production.
